Cafe Review: Revelry @ Beauty World (21 Lorong Kilat)
Revelry
A quiet cafe located along a row of shophouses, this cafe has been opened since 2014 with their menu being largely unchanged since then.
The interior was brightly lit and felt very cozy with yellow lighting.
Quite a spacious cafe with large tables for studying and complimentary wifi. However, do note that they only have 2 charging ports located outside the cafe which can get very hot and humid, especially in the afternoon. The complimentary lemon and orange-infused water provided was very delicious and refreshing as the fragrance from the fruits, especially the orange, was very noticeable.
I came on 3 separate occasions, to which I found the cafe generally quite empty.
1) 15/08/19
2) 22/08/19
3) 23/08/19
Unsurprisingly, the cafe was more crowded on the weekend that I was there compared to the weekdays, with substantially more students studying at the cafe.
This cafe specialises in waffles and indeed, most of the food served are on waffles, including their signature burffle (Cheeseburger with waffles as buns), waffle pizza and waffle benedict. They do serve pastas as well which have received quite good feedback from other online reviews.
Signature Burffle ($19)
The salad was dusted with a bit of black pepper, and vinaigrette. Consists of baby spinach, lettuce, almond flakes, cherry tomatoes. The salad, which is usually an afterthought at other food establishments, was quite delicious though I would have preferred more dressing.
The waffle was very airy and fluffy, consistently so throughout my visits to the cafe.
Beneath the top piece, was a layer of melted cheese which helped to provide a subtle saltish and creamy contrast to the beef patty. Meanwhile, the beef patty provided was very thick, moist and juicy with lots of flavour. Though I would have liked more cheese as it can get overwhelmed by the bold flavours of the beef, it was definitely one of the better cheeseburgers I've eaten and not just another 'instagrammable' dish.
Taste: 8.5/10 (Should give this a try)
Chai Latte ($5.50)
Very aromatic with strong notes of cinnamon. The consistency is quite thick as well.
(Forgot to rate this at the time I drank it)
Monkey King ($16)
- Very sweet chunks of banana cake
- Waffles had the same slightly savoury buttermilk batter
- Vanilla ice cream did not have the strongest flavour but still very fragrant, specks of vanilla bean could be seen. This was definitely not as creamy as a gelato.
Though the salted caramel sauce here was already drizzled and seemed as though quite little was provided, it was very strong in taste and was able to cut through all the other sweet elements of the dish. The warm, mushy caramelised bananas was another plus, complementing the chilled ice cream really well.
Overall, there were lots of contrasting textures playing in your mouth and working in harmony - crumbly banana cake, mushy banana, fluffy moist waffles and ice cold creamy vanilla ice cream. Best item I've tried at the cafe.
Taste: 9.5/10
Chicken & Waffles ($19)
The chicken smelled heavenly and was very crispy and crunchy on the outside while moist and tender on the inside. The batter was very fragrant and well-seasoned as well, not overly salted. Garnished with some chopped parsley, the chicken thigh was placed on a bed of cherry tomatoes, baby spinach, lettuce and almond flakes. The maple syrup came out quite strongly here but I don't think I'm quite a big fan of chicken & waffles as I don't find the flavours balancing one another out. Would have preferred a simple waffle with good maple syrup (Like the syrup given)
Taste: 8.5/10 (For the very moist and juicy chicken thigh)
Hot Chocolate ($5.50)
Very milky, cocoa powder is evident but would have preferred a thicker and darker version.
Taste: 6.5/10

Grilled beef patty, Cheese, Fresh Lettuce, Tomatoes and animal-style sauce (Adapted from Sethlui's review, it is a sauce made with a mixture of condiments, including mayonnaise, mustard, ketchup) |
