$1 Oysters @ Teru Sushi + G Bar & Grill

My friend and I decided to try a $1 Oyster promotion by Teru Sushi after some research online. But, as the a la carte dishes were all heftily priced - their menu can be found on their website or through this link - we decided to go to another restaurant for lunch first. So how do you find good lunch at affordable prices on a MONDAY? Through Eatigo of course (Not a sponsored post)... thus we ended up at G Bar & Grill with a 50% Eatigo discount.

G Bar & Grill is known for its fusion western dishes and specialises in dishes prepared using their BERTHA oven, a professional indoor charcoal oven.

Unagi Bruschetta ($12.50)

- Bruschetta topped with mayo (A sauce that was off-white in colour), lettuce, unagi, teriyaki glaze, bonito flakes
The unagi was soft and thick and the entire dish is a good starter that tempted me to order the Unagi Fillet ($22.50) from the Mains as well (Which I thankfully did not as there was far too much food already). For its price though, not too sure if it is worth ordering as I felt the portion was quite small but then again, it is a Starter.
Overall: 8/10

Nasi Lemak Pizza ($16.90)

Crunchy sliced cucumbers on top

- 'Bertha-oven grilled thin crusted pizza with coconut bechamel base, sambal chili, grilled chicken, egg & peanuts'
The pizza had a very aromatic strong coconut milk aroma and sambal flavour. The sweetness from the sambal, saltiness from the ikan bilis, coconut milk & egg worked very well together and it was truly as if you were eating all the flavours of an authentic Nasi Lemak with every bite. This pizza would have already been a joy to eat as it is but was elevated to a whole new level when eaten with the crunchy sliced cucumbers at the top which provided additional crunch and a refreshing aftertaste to end off every bite, making the experience of eating the 'Nasi Lemak' even more authentic.
Perhaps my only 'negative' comment would be that I did not taste nor see any peanuts on the pizza though.
Overall: 10/10 (Must-try dish)

Beef & Foie Gras Burger ($23.50)

2 Sides: Garlic bread, Mesclun salad with sesame dressing
Sauce: Gorgonzola

- Presented to you in a smoked cylinder

- Comes with thick fluffy charcoal buns, foie gras infused beef patty, lettuce, tomatoes, bacon
- 2 Sides: Garlic Bread + Mesclun Salad with sesame dressing & 1 sauce: Gorgonzola sauce
The burger as a whole was very moist, juicy, fluffy and flavourful. Beef patty was thick and meaty but could not taste the foie gras added into the patty. Enjoyed the gorgonzola sauce that came at the side was creamy, slightly pungent and surprisingly light and mild. Couldn't taste any smokiness in the dish though. The sides were decent though the garlic bread was too hard for my liking (May be because they were using something that looked like a baguette?).
Overall: 8/10 (Worth trying if you are craving a burger)

Black Angus 150-Days Grain-Fed Sirloin ($37.50)

2 Sides: Jacket potato with yoghurt & bacon bits, sauteed vegetables of the day
Sauce: Lemon butter

- 250gm of sirloin steak (We asked for it to be cooked medium rare)
- 2 Sides: Jacket Potato with yoghurt & bacon bits + sauteed vegetables of the day & 1 sauce: Lemon Butter sauce
The beef was cooked perfectly and was very tender. The cut was quite lean with a small layer of fat on the side of the cut. The jacket potato was slightly too hard for me and would have preferred it to be cooked longer. The sauteed vegetables were moist, had loads of garlic flavour and delicious. Loved the lemon butter sauce which pairs very well with the hard and dry garlic bread; creamy, fragrant and tangy
(My friend felt that the beef tasted like banana; But rest assured that I did not taste that in the beef)
Overall: 8/10

G Bar & Grill serves very unique fusion western food. With the 50% Eatigo discount, this place is definitely worth visiting and I will definitely come back to try more of its dishes. The Nasi Lemak pizza was definitely the highlight of the meal and could have easily replaced my main (I ate all but 1 1/2 slices of the pizza).

Teru Sushi 01/07/19

Moving on to Teru Sushi, we arrived in the nick of time at 1400H sharp as they close at 1430H and were grateful for being allowed to place a last order (Though on the signboard outside, last order is at 1415H). To enjoy the $1 oyster promotion without incurring a $2 surcharge per pax, at least 1 other dish had to be ordered. After a really long deliberation, we settled for their aburi salmon sushi which was having a promotional price of $10 for 2 pieces, instead of $16. The prices at this restaurant are incredibly steep in my opinion but the experience of watching the chef make our sushi made up for it somewhat.

Aburi Salmon Sushi ($10 at promotional price; $16 for 2 pieces)

Starting off with the ball of rice, the sushi master would mould it gracefully with his hands before adding a touch of wasabi and black sauce (Soya sauce?) to the rice. A layer of salmon would then be placed on top before being blowtorched which I thought was the end of the spectacle, hence stopping my recording. However, he went on for some time afterwards adding numerous toppings - ebi miso (Shrimp paste miso), fish roe and tiny green onions. The aburi sushi was meant to be eaten in 1 bite and so I did. While there were quite a few flavours which I did not pick up (Including the ebi miso), the fish roe at the top definitely complemented the sushi really well, with bursts of briny saltiness after every bite.
Taste: 8/10

Hiroshima Oysters ($1)

These oysters were served with ponzu sauce (Japanese citrus sauce) and momoji-oroshi (grated daikon radish with chili oil) and spring onions at the side.
As my friend and I had just consumed freshly shuckled oysters from The Dancing Crab @ Turf City the night before ($3), these oysters tasted noticeably less fresh, were much smaller in size and were sour and less juicy. While the sourness may have been due to the ponzu sauce, it did not do justice to the oysters and we would have preferred the oysters without the sauce. Also, though the oysters were served on a bed of ice, they were barely cold when we had them which made it even less enjoyable to eat.
Taste: 4/10

Moral of this trip: You get what you pay for
Nevertheless, this was a fantastic food adventure and I am thankful for eating my fill at G Bar & Grill (Total bill came up to $58.05 inclusive of GST and Service charge for 2 pax).
